Presentation Policy

A presenter is someone who requests to present a program to Seniors at the Traverse City Senior Center.

Presentation Guidelines:

1.  Presenter must be able to show experience and knowledge in the area of suggested topic.  Example: Current employer, education, certification etc.

2.  Topic must be approved by Senior Center staff.  Approval will be based on level of interest staff feels membership will have on topic, how well program fits into current schedule and presenter’s ability to meet the terms of the policy.

3.  Presenter must work with Senior Center staff to set up a date and time for the program.  Programs must be organized and established by the 10th of the month prior to their scheduled dates.

4.  Presentations must be of informational or entertaining use to the Seniors.  No product or service may be sold without the written permission of staff, prior to the event.  When a topic is “issue” related where opposition is evident, presenter will be asked to have opposing viewpoint represented as well.  This is to insure that participants receive a balanced opinion.  Any issue that is in litigation with the City of Traverse City must first be approved by the City Manager’s office.

5.  Presenter is responsible for publicity.  We suggest that an advertisement be placed in the Active Years, Bay Area Times, and/or Traverse City Record Eagle, as well as PSA’s to local radio and television stations.  A flyer or handout used for distribution at presenter’s place of employment is also helpful.  All announcements or advertisements are to be approved by Senior Center staff prior to distribution.  The Senior Center will advertise the program in monthly publication if arrangements meet deadline requirements.

6.  Coffee, Hot Tea, and Hot Chocolate may be available at Senior Center for a fee to the presenter.  Providing additional refreshments such as cookies or other snack is recommended.

7.  The Traverse City Senior Center reserves the right to cancel the program if the policy is not adhered to.  The Center also reserves the right to cancel the program should attendance fall below 10.  The Senior Center will give the presenter at least 48 hours notice of such decision, when possible.

8.  The charge for use of the building for a presentation is $25.00/hour. The minimum charge for a presentation will be $25.00. The charge includes use of the facility and inclusion in monthly bulletin.
